Former Chelsea defender Wayne Bridge believes that Chelsea can win the Premier League despite being written off by various pundits. He admitted that the team has failed to strengthen properly during the transfer window especially with the Champions League coming up this season.
However, he believes that there is still time before the end of the transfer window and that there is news that the team might be signing some new players in the days to come.
The former defender believes that Chelsea already has a good squad and that they have added a strong player in Morata. But he admitted that he does not understand why they are allowing a quality player such as Diego Costa to leave the club.
He said that Costa had been instrumental for them last season and he has won valuable points for them through his goals and that it would be very difficult to replace him.
Wayne Bridge said that Antonio Conte is a good manager and he already has his first team in mind and it is for this reason that he believes that they will be able to retain the title. However, he conceded that there are many other teams that will challenge for the title and that it would be much more difficult than it was last season.
He said that teams such as Manchester City and Manchester United have bought some quality players and have addressed the weaknesses that were so evident last season. For this reason, he believes that they will finish closer to the top and that they will be the toughest challengers for Chelsea.
Wayne Bridge said that Chelsea will also have to adapt to the demand of the Champions League and that this may impact their performance in the Premier League.
